Hello North Carolina!
What's happening in DC is occupying our minds, but the available opportunities (and fun!) here in North Carolina just grow every week. And it IS fun to be part of a resistance movement that is larger, broader, deeper, and more energized day by day!
See what you can fit in your schedule, and invite others to join you. People are more likely to take action if someone invites them in!
More opportunities always available here.
Make our voices heard in opposition to the GOP-controlled NC General Assembly. Republicans continue to propose and rush through laws that hew to the Project 2025 agenda. These laws do NOT have the support of the majority of North Carolinians, and we need to make sure the legislature knows we are watching.
ACTION: Make calls to our legislators about these bills. Charlotte Indivisible keeps track of the most critical bills, and provides background and scripts. Sign up weekly here and start making calls! They make a difference!
For extra credit, YouCanVote asks people to also call members of the NC House Election Law Committee and the bill sponsors. Worth doing! Details here.
Lay the groundwork for the next legislative elections with Neighbors On Call/County To County. Reach out to constituents of some of the Democratic state legislators who helped break the Republican supermajority in 2024. .
ACTION: Make phone calls, and canvass if you are in state - a friend of mine is gathering people together to drive several hours this weekend to canvass! Phone bank for Rep. Dante Pittman with a kickoff on 4/9 (and then make calls on your own through 4/30). Canvass for Rep. Dante Pittman on 4/12. Sign up here.
Make it possible for more people to vote.
ACTION: Write postcards with Field Team 6 to help register voters in NC. Field Team 6 is the largest partisan voter registration organization in the country. Attend an info session about Field Team 6’s strategy any Wednesday at 2 pm. Sign up here to write postcards.
ACTION: Support voters to get state-issued photo IDs with VoteRiders, the only nationwide organization that provides free 1:1 assistance. They have a physical presence in Charlotte, NC but provide virtual assistance to voters anywhere. Volunteer and commit to 1-3 hours a week. The next training session is 4/15 at 7 pm.
The Hands Off! National Day of Action
Rallies are happening across NC. If you can't go to DC on April 5, attend a rally near you to stand up against those who believe they can take whatever they want—our democracy, our future, our rights.
ACTION: There will be a rally in Raleigh. To find the one closest to you, click here, fill in your location, and click on Apply Filters.
Calling all warriors for justice!
Jefferson Griffin is trying to throw out over 60,000 votes in a pitiful attempt to overturn Justice Allison Riggs' electoral victory.
ACTION: Join us on Monday, April 7 from 6-8pm EDT as we call voters on his list to inform and empower them to tell their stories and protect their votes.
Build the resistance! Let's invite our friends, neighbors and co-workers to join us at protests and rallies.
ACTION: Your best bets for finding up to date information are: Common Cause North Carolina, Carolina Federation, and Indivisible groups in NC (e.g., Bull City Indivisible, Engaged Durhamites 4 Democracy, Indivisible Charlotte, and others). In Durham County, also check out Durham Dems Action.
There are so many opportunities to get involved but no need for it to overwhelm you. Do what you can—even one thing helps make a difference!
Stay strong,
Jess (and Marilyn, NC partner + Andrea who helps with state newsletters)
Am handicapped, a Democrat, and want to help get some people with horse sense about the government.

I live in Raleigh, have internet access, but do not drive. I am happy to help any way I can!
Thank You for helping,
