Hi, all!
I just read an interesting piece in Blue Tent, (an excellent publication focussed on helping progressive laypeople make smart political donations), about Cheri Beasley’s Senate race in North Carolina.
The TLDR? Almost all of our US Senate candidates are swimming in money—whether they win or lose will come down to other factors, not lack of funds. Beasley, however, is an exception. Because she’s still technically in a primary, and because she has lower name recognition, she has less socked away than she should at this point in her campaign. So Blue Tent, who otherwise recommends not giving to Senate campaigns, says of hers:
“Given the importance of this race, her clear chances of victory, and her need for money, we believe that donating to Beasley’s campaign is a priority.”
So that’s one way you can help right now. Just make a donation of any size. Do it through her campaign website, which is here. Better yet, send out an email to a few friends, post on social, or hold a bake sale fundraiser for her and see if you can generate a bit more. Early money is KEY, and she needs more, now.
One more thing: if you don’t have any money, or want to do something more tangible, Working America is sending 30,000 letters to recipients in 9 states, including NC, focusing on health care, worker pay, affordable housing, and climate change. These personalized letters will increase the importance of these issues and frame how folks think about their civic engagement.
Want to send 50 letters to North Carolina? (Don’t worry, the letter is mostly pre-written—you just print it, add a few sentences, then address it and send). Go here for more info and to sign up!
Thanks, all! More soon!
Jess
P.S. As always, please feel free to write me back and tell me what you’re doing. 😁
I'm writing a ton of postcards to folks encouraging them to vote for her. And I just donated!!
