DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATIONS
All in for NC is an all-volunteer organization based in Massachusetts that coordinates closely with groups on the ground in NC to elect Democrats. This election cycle it are laser focused on Mecklenburg County (the county of Charlotte), a county with many Democrats but historically low voter turnout. Their phone banks are centered around calling strong Democrats to invite them to attend events in their community and volunteer.
The Center for Common Ground is a nonpartisan organization that educates and empowers voters of color in voter suppression states, to build a democracy that prioritizes the voices of ALL people. North Carolina is one of their priority states this election cycle. Join a phone bank to call Black voters in North Carolina and help them overcome new barriers to voting.
County to County is a project of the Orange County Democratic Party working to turn the overcome the Republican supermajority and turn the NC General Assembly blue. Their phone banks are run in conjunction with on-the-ground canvassing and postcarding.
Democracy NC is a statewide nonpartisan voting rights organization that has long advocated and fought for voting rights across the state. They protect the vote at the polls, advocate for access to the ballot, and their phone banks target NC voters to engage and educate them about voting.
Down Home NC builds power with poor and working-class people in North Carolina’s small towns and rural communities through community organizing. One more chance this month to learn and use deep canvassing with Down Home NC. Phone banks target rural NC voters who lean Democratic to raise awareness of the stakes in NC’s governor race, to make sure people know about the extremism of Republican candidate Mark Robinson. Robinson is an extreme far-right candidate who will stop at nothing to ban abortion, loosen gun safety laws, weaken our public schools, and spread hate and division.
Field Team 6 is the largest partisan (Democratic) voter registration group in the country. Phone banking is just one of their methods of outreach to unregistered likely Democratic voters. They also sponsor regular in-person events and text banks.
The NC Democratic Party is re-energized this election cycle and is doing an amazing job of supporting county Democratic Parties across the state, and in particular reaching out to rural and young Democratic voters. Join their calls to invite strong Dems to local Democratic Party social events and voter outreach opportunities. These are easy, friendly calls. These are well-organized and supportive phone banks (I’ve done them!). Once you are trained you can also make calls on your own.
NC for Biden-Harris. This is the Coordinated campaign, NC Victory 2024, that arrived this month in NC and have launched a non-stop slew of events to invite more Democrats to be involved and to talk with voters. Their phonebanks are primarily focused on engaging strong Democrats and recruiting them as volunteer.s
New Rural Project engages young and marginalized residents in rural communities to amplify their voices through increased civic and electoral engagement. Their current phone banks are focused on identifying the need for rides to the polls, and they are part of a collaboration with RideshareToVote, the only national organization that coordinates drivers and voters. Anyone can request a ride from RideShareToVote, although they also work directly with local Democratic Parties to help meet the need for rides.
Sister District is a grassroots organization that aims to build enduring progressive power in state legislatures across the country. They have provided wonderful expertise and support for NC’s fight to end the Republican supermajority, and their work is outstanding for its reliance on research.
Swing Blue Alliance is the parent organization to All in for NC and holds events to support the work of All in for NC. Their current phone banks, like those of All in for NC focus on recruiting volunteers.
Thanks, Marilyn, and thanks all of you! If you attend one of these events please let me know how it goes!
