Hi, Team NC!
I wanted to let you know about a new Markers For Democracy postcarding campaign for Safiyah Jackson, who’s running for state house in southern Wake County AND for Bryan Cohn, who’s running for state house in Granville / Vance counties (just north of Raleigh).
About Safiyah -
Safiyah is running for state house in North Carolina against a MAGA right-wing incumbent who has voted to ban abortion rights and funnel taxpayer dollars away from public education, and into private school vouchers for the wealthy.
Safiyah supports enabling strong families, funding public education, protecting reproductive freedom, and ensuring equality and a high quality of life for ALL citizens. She will work to enhance prosperity in Southern Wake County and across N.C.
About Bryan --
Bryan Cohn is running for N.C. State House District 32. He is running against a Republican incumbent who claims to represent the people and not his party, despite voting with extremist MAGA politicians 97% of the time.
Bryan serves on the Oxford Board of Commissioners, where he has fought to secure pay increases for city employees, including police and firefighters. He has vowed to fight for N.C. educators and staff, including long overdue pay increases and working to repeal the destructive private school voucher program.
About North Carolina’s state legislative races:
Democrats need to flip one seat to break the GOP’s N.C. supermajority. This means if Democrat Josh Stein wins the governor’s race, the state legislature would be able to uphold his vetoes. More broadly, a win for Bryan and/or Safiyah will help up-ballot candidates including Jeff Jackson for Attorney General, Mo Green for NC Superintendent of Public Instruction, Josh Stein for Governor, and Kamala Harris for President.
Mail Date for both: Write and HOLD until Oct. 9.
If you want to write for Safiyah or Bryan, complete this form. Markers For Democracy volunteers will respond by email within 48 hours with instructions on how to set up an account & get addresses for these candidates.
THANK YOU!
Jess
I've been phonebanking for Safiyah Jackson! She's an outstanding candidate who deserves all our support and I'm thrilled to see a postcard campaign for her. Some activists are fond of sneering at postcards, but when you've been hung up on 50 times in a row, you can appreciate that a postcard at least GETS THERE.
Hi Jess, thanks for pubicizing these campaigns!
I'm a member of Markers for Democracy and was planning to start writing for these campaigns as soon as I finish writing forone with an Aug 31 mailing deadline. FYI, I was told that Bryan is interested in getting as many NC writers to send postcards as possible (i.e., vs. out-of-state writers). He's happy for anyone to write for his campaign, but if you can't decide who to start with that could be a deciding factor....
