Hey, Team NC!
First off, some good news: as some of you have likely heard, on Wednesday night the NC Supreme Court rejected Jefferson Griffin’s petition! Griffin, the GOP candidate for state Supreme Court, has been working tirelessly to overturn the democratic election of Justice Allison Riggs, asking the courts to reject 60,000 perfectly valid ballots. The fact that this wasn’t approved is fantastic, and you should all be tremendously proud of your work.
BUT, the battle isn’t over. Justice Riggs’ win isn’t certified, and the lower courts in NC will continue to evaluate Griffin's claim. Still, it’s a win. Visit this page from Common Cause NC for more info and ways to get involved.
With that in mind, the most important thing we can do right now is build up the infrastructure and the media power to keep people like this—election deniers, politicians who blatantly abuse power—out of office in the future. All in for NC is hosting an amazing event (which I, along with Carolina Forward and Lean Left VT, am co-sponsoring) to this end on Monday, February 24. You’ll hear from the leaders of some of NC’s best new advocacy and media groups about their work to ensure progressive and Democratic voices are actually heard. If you want to be involved in shaping the future of the Left in NC, this is a great place to start! Register here.
Thanks, all! Enjoy your weekend.
