Hey, Team NC.
Just wanted to share a snippet from All in for NC’s newsletter that made me a bit happier, and all around incredibly proud of the organizing work we’ve done this year.
In the words of Jeff Blum, All in for NC’s Chair:
I want you to know that North Carolina was, in some ways, one of the brightest spots in the country despite Trump devastatingly winning it by over double his 2020 margin—3.4% this year (182,000 votes) compared to 1.3% in 2020 (75,000 votes).
How can I say that?
Because Josh Stein beat Mark Robinson by an almost-impossible 14.6% (811,000 votes).
Because Democrats won three other major “Council of State” races:
Rachel Hunt (daughter of legendary governor Jim Hunt) for lieutenant governor,
Jeff Jackson for attorney-general, and
Mo Green to be the top schools official.
Congressman Don Davis won re-election in a very tough district, especially this year.
There’s the slightest glimmer of hope that we could win the state supreme court race, but the margin will be under 0.2% either way.
Best of all, Democrats broke the gerrymandered supermajority in the house! After president and governor, this was the top priority. We needed to win four of the nine genuinely swing races, including two incumbents that the Republicans tried to gerrymander out of office. And we did!
In short, thanks to you all (and, of course, to the work of All in for NC) there are plenty of smaller, but still deeply important, wins to celebrate. Now that a little bit of the initial post-Election Day despair has subsided, I hope you do take the time to celebrate them.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving, all.
Jess
P.S. Click here to sign up for their newsletter– it’s fantastic.
BTW, the number for REp. Mark Pless in North Carolina is incorrect. It is 919-733-5732. The number on the 12/2/24 email is incorrect and the homeowner is getting hundreds of calls.
I am so impressed with the leadership teams on the ground in NC - such commitment, dedication, optimism and talent. I agree about the newsletter- it’s great! As a former resident of the state of North Carolina, my hopes were high, and the disappointment was great. That said the accomplishments were amazing. Onward!
